Hallerbos: The Bluebell Forest

June 24, 2016

Hallerbos – ‘The Blue Forest’ – is an extensive forest area just outside of the Flemish city of Halle. A beautiful carpet of bluebells and towering Sequoia trees attract crowds from mid-April to mid-May. Enjoy today's post, which will be 90% pictures, because the images speak for themselves.

Even though the bluebells are at their peak in mid to late April, they were still beautiful and (mostly) in bloom when I visited on May 8th. A few flowers began to shrivel and the colours were a mix of new and vibrant shades with some growing older and darker. The trees were leafy and full, though, which added to the forest's charm.

Beautiful little bells

There were paths throughout the forest for walking, biking, and horseback riding, with a few little ponds and other wildflowers to enjoy along the way.

Hangin' around

I hope you enjoyed having a look at this simple, short post. Hallerbos was stunning despite the late-season visit, and it was nice to get out of compact little Leuven and into some good old fashioned nature. Thanks for reading (or looking)!
